EDRD*2650 - Introduction to Planning and Environmental Law

Course Description

The goal of the course is to introduce the students to the principles and processes that govern the management of land use and the protection of the environment. This will be done through an examination of the key legislation and regulations applied to land use and the environment.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, the learner should be able to:

1. Mention and describe the institutions and structures of the law and legal system as applied to land use and the environment;
2. Explain legal processes and the implementation of these processes;
3. Identify and discuss land use planning law with particular focus on the context of Ontario but with relevance for Canada;
4. Discuss environmental law with a focus on the context of Ontario but with relevance for Canada;
5. Connect and discuss the law and issues related to Natural Resources and their use and management in Canada; and
6. Recognize and discuss the law as it relates to Aboriginal interests in land, resources, and the environment.
