Course Description

An introduction to the methods and analyses of Women's Studies. An interdisciplinary feminist and multicultural examination of research about women and the gendered nature of societies and cultures. Areas of inquiry may include psychology, law, science, culture, work, family, violence, health, and sexuality.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, the learner should be able to:

  1. Characterize the historical and contemporary challenges faced by women and other marginalized groups;
  2. Evaluate and interpret information from a variety of sources and synthesize this information in both online discussions and written work;
  3. Articulate connections between global, national and local issues as they relate to the experiences of women and other marginalized groups;
  4. Analyze the impact of various institutions on women's lives and experiences;
  5. Define key terms and concepts relating to feminism and Women's Studies; and
  6. Identify and synthesize various theories and perspectives from various academic disciplines that inform feminism.
