Course Description

 

Through various case studies addressing the lack of veterinary access to communities including remote or northern regions, small towns, and economically vulnerable areas, you will develop strategies to advance the health and well-being of animals, clients, and communities. This course underscores the higher purpose of veterinary practice by focusing on relationship-centred care, which is crucial for addressing the unique needs of underserviced communities.

Emphasizing the evolving role of RVTs, the course covers cultural humility, effective communication and the application of innovative technologies and strategies. Build your skills to implement care models and address challenges in veterinary access. Learn to excel in your current role and be positioned as a key contributor to the evolving landscape of veterinary care and be ready to meet future demands and minimize ongoing veterinary access issues.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this micro-credential, learners will be able to:

1. Define, and identify the needs of an underserviced community.

2. Identify key community leaders and other stakeholders for successful implementation of technician-led veterinary care services.

3. Apply principles of cultural sensitivity to enhance collaboration and communication with diverse communities in veterinary care.

4. Perform a Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats (SWOT) analysis for technician-led veterinary services in an underserviced community.

5. Describe a variety of veterinary service delivery models and select appropriate models for a variety of contexts, considering safety of the veterinary team, animals, and clients.

6. Analyze advantages and limitations of current virtual care delivery models.

7. Create a plan for effective communication strategies.
