Course Description
Explore advanced landscape design principles, techniques and approaches. From initial client interactions and site analysis, and throughout the design process, you will build on what you’ve learned in the Landscape Design l course. Learn to incorporate advanced concepts such as grading, drainage, accessibility, environmental impact, and micro-climates, and examine how some of the key structural elements of the landscape are built.
You will have an opportunity to demonstrate your understanding of the advanced concepts of this course.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Analyze, identify and justify design solutions for residential and small commercial landscapes
- Describe how common landscape elements are constructed
- Recognize accessibility issues in the landscape and address them using universal design strategies
- Assess micro-climates within the landscape and integrate landscape elements to improve micro-climatic conditions for human comfort
- Demonstrate how topography is used in the landscape to address both design and drainage challenges
- Assess the environmental impact of a given landscape and incorporate best practices to reduce the negative impacts of a new landscape design
- Present landscape design ideas in a coherent and professional manner throughout the design process
- Produce a comprehensive landscape design to meet a specific client’s wants and/or needs

Additional Requirements
- It is recommended that you complete a graphics course (e.g., Graphic and Presentation Styles or Computer Aided Design l) before registering for this course.
- This course is intended for adult learners who are at least 18 years of age.
- You can expect to spend 8 to 12 hours per week to complete the course content, readings, activities, discussions and assignments.
Landscape Design II is a required course in the Landscape Design Certificate/Diploma.
Prerequisite: You must be currently enrolled or have successfully completed Landscape Design I prior to enrollment in Landscape Design II.
Do not enrol in this course if you have successfully completed Landscape Design ll (310-0003).
