Course Description

This course is intended for those who need to be aware of how to protect data in their organizations. The course is designed to inform, educate, and upskill participants in data security and information sharing to effectively manage risk. The course provides an understanding of the principles and importance of data security and information governance. It examines responsibilities when sharing information, including action to be taken to reduce the risk of breaches and incidents. This data security and risk management training will help participants to be increasingly alert to known and common data security risks, as well as one’s responsibilities when handling information.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

  1. Convey the importance and value of data security and risk management.
  2. Accurately interpret and apply the laws that inform data security and risk management.
  3. Determine threats to data security and act to avoid them.
  4. Appraise cyber-security incidents and apply appropriate responses.
  5. Identifying, reporting, and avoiding breaches and incidents.

Early bird registration rates are offered as follows: $855.00 when registering 60 days prior to the course start date. $895.00 when registering 30 days prior to the course start date. Regular registration fees apply for registrations made less than 30 days prior to the course start date and are priced at $995.00.

This course uses CourseLink, the University of Guelph’s Learning Management System and Zoom video conferencing. Please ensure you have the technical requirements to participate in the course. CourseLink access begins Friday May 9, 2025.

You are required to attend all scheduled online synchronous (live online) sessions.

Assignments may be due after the final live online class date. Details will be provided in the Course Outline in CourseLink.
