The Equine Science Certificate is designed to help you improve the management and welfare of horses in your care. The courses are based on scientific research and are presented in a practical format, making it easy for you to directly apply what you have learned to the health and performance of your horse.
The overall outcomes for students of the Equine Science Certificate are:
- Find, review and be able to complete an analysis of science-based information on equine topics.
- Implement practices in the management and care of horses based on research and evidence.
To obtain the Equine Science Certificate, students are required to complete the four core courses and two electives. This represents 216 hours of study. Each course is 12 weeks in length and represents 36 hours of study.
Students must either be at least 18 years of age, or have completed Grade 12 or equivalent in order to register for the courses.
The equine science and business courses at the University of Guelph are open learning continuing education courses and you do not have to apply and be accepted into the certificate program to take one of the courses.
Achieving the Certificate
Once you have completed the six courses required for the Equine Science Certificate you will be able to request your certificate from the University of Guelph by completing the ‘Request for Certificate Form’. Forms are located on the current students page.
