Upon successful completion of all courses required to achieve the Certificate, students will be able to:
- Explore and identify the relationships of soil, water, insects, diseases and weeds in agriculture systems and select best management practices and inputs to improve soil health and produce economically and ecologically viable products
- Compare, analyze and apply agricultural practices that are environmentally sound, productive and provide a positive social impact on individuals and the community
- Identify the major food producing plant families commonly found in temperate zone growing areas and niche market opportunities for urban agriculture
- Compare processing and storage options for specific fruits and vegetables and describe the key steps and limitations to can, dry and freeze foods
- Develop a business plan with the financial knowledge and skills to launch and maintain a landscape business
